USG of Pancreas
Protocols
Normal usg of pancreas :
â›”Anatomical measurements:
1.Head, Tail antero-posterior diameter = less than 3 cm
2.Neck, Body antero-posterior diameter = less than 2.5 cm
3.Diameter of pancreatic duct = 2 mm
Acute Pancreatitis USG findings :
1.hypoechoic extrapancreatic inflammation (present in 60% of patients)Â
2. pancreatic parenchymal inhomogeneity (present in 56% of patients)
3.Extrapancreatic inflammation is the most useful of these.
 Usg findings of chronic pancreatitis :
chronic pancreatitis may include dilatation of the main pancreatic duct, calcifications, pancreatic gland enlargement,
changes in pancreatic size, shape, and contour, pancreatic pseudocysts, hyperechogenicity suggesting fibrotic changes, pseudoaneurysms and ascites.
