Respiratory Alkalosis:
Causes:
- 1)Hyperventilation as in anxiety
- 2) Mechanical Ventilation
- 3) Salicylates poisoning /Sepsis
- 4)Liver disease
- 6)Severe anaemia
Parametter:
- pH = > 7.4
- pCo2 = less then 35 mmHg
Clinical Features:
- 1)dizziness.
- 2)bloating.
- 3)feeling lightheaded.
- 4)numbness or muscle spasms in the hands and feet.
- 5)discomfort in the chest area.
- 6)confusion.
- 7)dry mouth.
- 8)tingling in the arms.
Investigations:
- 1)ABG
- 2) Serum creatinine
- 3)Serum Electrolyte
- 4)LFT
- 5)CBC
- 6)ECG
Rx:
- O2,supplement
- treatment of underlying cause of Hyper ventilation
If severe then Ventilator support
- Reduce anxiety
