Datura Poisoning:

Clinical Features:

  • Dry skin and mucosa
  • flushing
  • mydriasis
  • sinus tachycardia
  • hyperpyrexia
  • decreased bowel activity
  • urinary retention
  • neurological disorders with ataxia
  • impaired short-term memory
  • disorientation
  • confusion
  • hallucinations (visual and auditory)

investigation:

  • ECG
  • Liver fuction test
  • CBC
  • serum creatinine


Rx: 

  • Hospitalization
  •  NPO – TFO
  • O2 inhallation 4-6 L/ min & sos
  • Continuous Catheterization
  • Stomach Wash within 1 hour

1. Inf. 5% DNS (1L) + N/S (1L) +5% DA (1L)

  • IV @ 30 d/min

2.  Inj. Ceftron(1gm)(Ceftriaxone)

  • 1vial I/V ...........BD

3. Inj.Sergel (40mg)(Esomeprazole)

  • 1 vial I/V ......... BD


If symptoms: 

Inj. Neostig (Neostigmanine)(0.5mg/ml)

  • 1-2 amp s/c stat

If restlessness: 

Inj. Sedil(Diazepam)(10mg/2ml)

1 amp I/M stat 

If BP increase:

Inj. Lasix(Furosemide)(20mg/2ml)

  • 1 amp I/V stat

If fever: 

Supp. Napa (500mg)(paracetamol)

  • 1 stick P/R   .....sos 


During Discharge:

1. Cap.Denver(200mg)(Cefixime)

1+0+1.............7 days

2. Tab.Acifix(20mg)(Rabeprazole)

1+0+1.............10 days

3. Tab.Zovia gold/Silver(multivitamin)

1+0+1.............1 month

4. Tab.Esita(10mg)(Escitalopram)

1+0+0.............1 month 


Advice: 
  • Follow up after 7  days 
  • Need psychiatric consultation
